Social responsibility is ingrained in the very core of business operations at A1 Slovenia. Responsibility towards our colleagues, users and the broader society is how we work, our culture, our day-to-day. We organize various socially responsible campaigns, and make sure to include the participation of both our users and employees. How this works? Read on and find out about motivation and take-aways of Ana, Maruša and Lucie who joined the A1 Volunteer Day this fall.

11 September 2019. It was a nice and sunny day. Around 60 volunteers from A1 and Slovene Philanthropy took a bus to the Višnja Gora Educational Institution to assist in landscaping of the surroundings to make life a bit nicer for the young people who call it their home. We chopped down the unruly bushes, mowed the high grass, painted the windows and the overhanging roof, built a rock garden and planted some bushes and various flowers. We created a special energy with young people, got into some emotional conversations and in the end wished for the day to last just a bit longer. The gratitude was immense, as we were the first volunteers to come and lend a hand in the 70 years of the institute’s history.

My motivation to participate
I am always happy to attend the volunteer campaigns the company organizes. My biggest motivation is to be able to help someone who needs it. A workday spent with colleagues in a different setting gives me an extra boost.

My take-away from this day Volunteer day
… was a flurry of emotions. A perfect combination of pride, happiness, tiredness, but also sadness. I still remember the young people I met there and their harsh life stories. I am proud to have established authentic contact and trust with them.

Benefits for my job
Employees from various departments attend these volunteer campaigns. This is a great opportunity to get to know our colleagues better and become friends. Good understanding between colleagues promotes better collaboration, and makes resolving common challenges and processes faster. I am very proud to be able to work in a company that shares my values. I am proud to have such heartfelt people as my colleagues.

Maruša Dodič, Senior Sales Operations and Support Expert

My motivation to participate
Volunteering is an opportunity to get to know my colleagues better, while also doing something good and selfless for my fellow man. Volunteer work that I do by myself or together with my colleagues fills me with positive energy and satisfaction.

My take-away from this day
The warm welcome we received from the staff and the students at the Višnja Gora institute imbued the rest of the day with warmth and joy, and inspired me to have another such day very soon.

Benefits for my job
I got to know some colleagues much closer, who I am sure I would not have met at work. For those I collaborate with on a regular basis, we strengthened our relationships and added a story that connects us, making our cooperation at work easier and more relaxed.

»Through cooperation and positive attitude we can foster great changes.«

Lucie Pokorna, Senior Product Manager

My motivation to participate
I wanted to participate because kindness and giving back to the community are important to me on a personal level.

My take-away from this day
I feel enriched and touched by the day we spent with the kids – the conversations I had with some of them made me want to continue working with them. I hope A1 can continue working with this institution, and through that help these young people. I think we could inspire and motivate them further. #MakeItHappen

I once again realized how lucky we are to live and work in such a positive environment. I also appreciate that A1 supports causes and projects like this one.
