What does summer mean to our business?
Because Croatia and Macedonia are both touristic destinations, roaming is a hot topic during the summer months. Number of calls to our Customer service department increases with questions related to prices in roaming, activating, and deactivating mobile internet. Also in the summer months, we expect to see a much higher network utilization by both domestic and foreign customers across the Dalmatian coast and on lake Ohrid. Nevertheless, we are always prepared to deal with all summer challenges that our customers have.

Mobile detox: yes or no? Any advice?
Definitely yes, and not just during summer, but I recommend mobile detox on weekly basis throughout the year. In my family, we have agreement to put our mobile phones in a jar for couple of hours during weekends and to use that time for different family activities. Naturally, I enjoy all the possibilities and fun that mobile phones provide us with, but mobile detox is important and needed. It lets you relax, mentally and physically and can enhance productivity and creativity.

What does summer mean to our business?
Summer means hot temperatures, vacation, travelling and it means roaming for us in telecommunications. We are focusing on providing the best roaming offers and on creating effective summer campaigns, which will attract attention of our customers during lazy summer mode. Summer is also always good for doing a recap of the first half of the year and analyzing what we have done so far and what we need to do until the end of the year. We are all a little bit lazy during summer, but that’s ok, because we need to recharge for what is next to come…

Alejandro Plater, COO A1 Group

For me summer and vacation is a lot about reading good books. One I would like to recommend is “The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership by Jim Dethmer, Diana Chapman and Kaley Klemp. An interesting, I would even say mind-changing book about leadership, roles and different states of consciousness. The base is a simple “black line model”: above the line are located the conscious leaders – open, curious, self-aware, able to tell themselves the truth and to experience what is here and now. The unconscious leaders below the line often do not really see what is happening around them. They can be described as reactive, closed, defensive and delivering short-term results but they are not free to lead from creative impulse. There is no judging about being in the one or the other state as we all live both ways from time to time. “It matters far more that leaders can accurately determine whether they are above or below the line in any moment than where they actually are.” The book shows how these two ways of leadership are connected to the threat of ego or identity, the role of giving and taking feedback and how leaders can enable people to work in their “zone of genius”. In the journey through the 15 commitments, the authors touch a lot of interesting topics, like the importance of pausing, reflecting, being aware and accepting. You can learn about taking ownership and about how to shift contexts of situations, states of consciousness and roles. To finally make you curious about this book another quote from the authors: “Most of us are far more interested in being right and proving it, than we are in learning, growing and shifting out of our old patterns. By default, we gravitate towards the familiar. We’re asking you to take a chance and explore the unfamiliar. You’ll get scared and reactive. We all do. So what? Just stay curious and let us introduce you to a whole new world of leadership.”

Gentle breeze near the sea, the smiles of the people you love, and less worries in the business.

Mobile detox: yes or no? Any advice?
I don’t find the mobile technology intoxicating – it’s part of the modern life, just like cars, credit cards, TV, etc. So, I don’t feel the need for a detox. Just maintain digital hygiene.

What does summer mean to our business?
Time is flying faster in summer. Otherwise, it’s business as usual. Big data traffics, summer promotions, roaming. It’s the time for a mid-year results review, for making adjustments if needed, and preparing for the rest of the year. Our business is really intense, and we can’t afford to postpone things for September. On the contrary, it’s a good time to do something crazy since no one is watching :)
